What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?

NLP offers tools and techniques to help model excellent winning strategies and in striving for e.g. best practice behavioural safety, corporate social ownership and responsibility, and first-class business and personal performance excellence.
Dr. Richard Bandler, a Masters level student of Information Sciences and Mathematician, met John Grinder Ph.D an assistant Professor of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, U.S.A.
In 1974 they began exploring how really effective people achieved consistent results. They were interested to explore ‘What was the difference that made the difference?’ i.e. what leads people to excel? Their discoveries formed the basis of the field we recognise as Neuro Linguistic Programming, which simply described encompasses:
|
NEURO |
Relates to the mind (i.e. the nervous system), through which our experience is processed via five senses:
|
|
LINGUISTIC |
Relates to the ways in which we express our experiences of the world through our language and other non-verbal communication systems. Our neural representations are coded, ordered, and given meaning.
|
|
PROGRAMMING |
Relates to the fact that we behave according to personal strategies or programmes (i.e. our communication to ourselves and others to achieve our desired outcomes).
|
NLP tools and techniques enable us to: enhance our thinking patterns, enrich our communication skills, enable us to develop personal strategies for successful working practices (and successful living), tap into our inner potential, and much, much more!
Prof. John Grinder states, "NLP gives you a specific set of strategies to unconsciously assimilate the differences that make the difference between e.g. a genius and an average performer."
By exemplifying personal excellence i.e. taking responsibility for all that we think, say and do, and by instilling a culture of duty and care, we can successfully make a difference to all living beings and things we connect with - our personal and professional achievements and results, then speak for themselves!
Of course Dr. Richard W. Bandler simply cuts to the chase by stating:
"We take the very best of what people do, synthesise it down, make it learnable and share it with each other; And that is what the real future of what NLP will be;
...And it's gonna stay that way!”

NLP Associations
Please note, when deciding upon an NLP training provider; there are no national or international formal institutions governing NLP certification programmes (i.e. the field of NLP is un-regulated), and there are no official guidelines with regards to certification, standardisation, affiliation, or regulation.
To my knowledge, as I write this, no NLP institutions offer quality control audits to ensure integrity and authenticity. However, there are many respectable NLP Associations who offer 'recommended standardisation criteria' for training programmes such as: NLP Diploma, NLP Practitioner, NLP Master Practitioner, NLP Trainers' Trainer and Consulting, and NLP Master Trainer programmes.
Initially, NLP was not intended to have a qualification hierarchy. It is said, that when Richard Bandler and John Grinder created and developed Neuro Linguistic Programming, their intention was to train and share with others these exceptional tools and techniques, which had proven to consistently achieve excellent results. Since the mid 1970’s as more and more people have acquired these skills, so the hierarchy and qualifications in NLP have evolved.
Here are a few NLP Associations, which you may already recognise:
· ABNLP: The American Board Of Neuro Linguistic Programming
· ANLP: Association of Neuro Linguistic Programming
· BBNLP: British Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming
· INLPTA: International Neuro Linguistic Programming Training Association Ltd
· ITANLP: International Trainers Academy of Neuro Linguistic Programming
· SNLP: The Society of Neuro Linguistic Programming
· The Professional Guild of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
Many of these institutions offer NLP related programmes. Here at Éiram Limited we are confident that our training programmes are aligned with the best 'recommended standardisation criteria', and we ensure integrity and authenticity in all that we think, say and do.
